How we started

The already chronic shortage of healthcare professionals and medical supplies in Ethiopia is exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic and the current conflict in the country. This posed a serious challenge to nurses and other health care workers to deliver care for those who are in desperate need of healthcare in Ethiopia. The mass displacement and destruction of health facilities due to the war placed pressure on the healthcare system and overwhelmed healthcare workers. As a result, nurses and other health care workers in Ethiopia are facing unimaginable challenges in their effort to save lives in emergencies with limited or no resources.

Some concerned Ethiopian diaspora nurses and other health professionals voluntarily formed EDNOHPA to provide financial support, donate basic medical supplies, share experiences and expertise and provide moral support to the health care workers in Ethiopia. In addition, the organization, working with concerned bodies back home, will facilitate for diaspora healthcare professionals to volunteer their time yearly in Ethiopia.
